The most important event last week was of course the announcement of THE GREATEST POOL CHECKERS PLAYER OF ALL TIMES - Iser Kuperman.

With this announcement Mr. Thompson (Pecan) completed his year-long review of who-is-who in Pool Checkers. But the series is not yet over! In the next couple months Mr. Thompson will share the reasons why he chose one player over another, and hopefully we will have discussions here on BB. Here is a quote from Mr. Thompson letter:
Quote:
I have now concluded my series. For the next two months, I will offer some final comments on a multitude of items. Included will be players who didn't quite make it - for whatever reasons; On February 15, 2005, I will make final comments on suggestions that were offered and was not acted upon.

I welcome input from you. Comments, endorsements, observations, criticisms are all expected and will be discussed in a positive manner. Where requested, your comments can be printed, verbatim, at the Pool Checkersí Site on the BB. Otherwise, I will just acknowledge your comments by responding directly to you.

As if it is not enough Mr. Thompson (and his wife who types them) added another chapter to the "Legends of Buster Smith" article - look to the right of the picture on this page.

The Mini Challenge still remains unsolved. It seems that many players looked at it but did not leave any comments whether they solved it or not. Even if not it would be interesting to know. Several Top Masters made a promise to take up the challenge - but they now leave the Vog room when I come in. So it seems.

Mr. Filippov made some exceptionally powerful remarks on the What do you think topic, that asked for the readers suggestions for the next year.

And last - but not the least - the requirement to register on the Bulletin Board is removed (at least temporary). Try it - click on the Post Reply button!

P.S. Don't miss a few funny pictures when you come in on the site - just click "Christmas Funnies" and enjoy.

This post was well-done, charter. I am looking forward to getting input from the players in the coming months. Thanks for the effort.

Now, I am going to turn my attention to solving some of your mini problems. Expect some solutions in the coming days.

There is a reason Charles. Every time I receive a message "I will do it tonight" I believe they actually meant it at the moment of saying, though they never acted that night or any other night. When I hear "days" it can mean a much longer time than that of "tonight" icon_sad.gif

There are some things people enjoy doing. I know a man who can sit down at a checker board and write out a game , and explore the minutiae of the game. This takes some kind of patience and love for the game. There are others who enjoy just playing the game. And then you have some who enjoy; shots, checker problems, openings and end games.
One can usually excell best when doing something they really enjoy doing.

I don't think Mr Pecan's interest is in solving mini or maxi challenges. However, I do believe his Joy is communicating with people. I think his attitude, his character and personality reflects that of a Manager, a Director, a Coordinator or a Teacher or a Journalist. That just seems to this writer the kind of work Mr Pecan's heart is into. So let us all be patient with one another and those who enjoy making "Replys". will make replys. Those who enjoy solving problems will solve problems. And those who just like playing the game will just play the game. But one thing for certain, that what we enjoy doing most is usually part of our nature and it will show up somewhere.

Are you saying Pecan is all those things but can't play checkers? He is a Top Master, the last time I checked! Look at the example of Tony Sijbrands, who just played 24 games - simulataneously, without ever seeing a board or writing down a single move, and it was on a big board where there are so many more moves to remembers!

A Top Master like Pecan should have no problems whatsoever to envision a few moves looking at the position on the screen! That is how they count the moves when playing in the tournament - they envision without moving checkers on the board many moves ahead.

So there was nothing super-natural in my request to solve the tiny challenge right there, without going home to use the board.

Mr charter, I think if you are going to quote what I said, I think you should record or display the entire sentance. Don't take a part of the sentance and try and make it out to be something that it isn't. The point is in my statement, I was pointing out Mr Pecan's "Strength", his obvious strong points. He or anyone else can be a Top Master or a Grand Master and not have any interest in solving mini challenges. It seems Mr Charter you are too forceful in trying to get players to do something they perhaps are not interwested in doing. This seems to be the case with many of the players. But give time and patience to your mini challenges, and those interested in solving them will do so.

Mr. Filippov. I am sorry you are in a bad mood today. The quoted section in my reply was to stress your points characterising Pecan, with me agreeing to all of them. It is hardly "make it out to be something that it isn't." as you put it. But if you want an entire sentence here is one:
Quote:
I don't think Mr Pecan's interest is in solving mini or maxi challenges.
I think it is presumptious of you to speak on Mr. Pecan's behalf, (and frankly on anyone else's behalf as you continue to do) of what his interests really are. Last night Pecan solved the Mini Challenge, just as he promised to do.

It seems like just a couple days earlier you asked me to continue as I was doing. icon_smile.gif
